Today, we’re excited to introduce Dom Vicencio, our Marketing Manager and resident storyteller.
Dom supports the entire customer journey, from initial awareness through onboarding and into ongoing engagement. He works closely with the sales, services, and engineering teams to ensure that every story we tell reflects the needs of our customers and the value of our product. With a love for learning, a deep respect for the mission, and a passion for simplifying complex systems, Dom brings clarity and energy to the work of benefits communication. We caught up with him to learn more about his journey, what excites him in the industry, and how an early ’90s movie shaped his view of the world.
Tell us a little about yourself. What drew you to join the SwellSpace team?
Dom: Hi all, my name is Dom. I’m coming up on my third year here at SwellSpace and 3Together, and what initially drew me to the team continues to be what I value most today.
First, I’ve always found the world of benefits to be confusing. After recovering from injuries in mountain biking and kickboxing, I remember wondering whether my coverage would truly support me. When something feels complex, people are naturally less likely to use it. That’s a challenge, whether you’re talking about employee benefits or introducing new technology. The chance to help people better understand and make use of their benefits felt meaningful to me.
Second, I consider myself a lifelong student. I saw this as an opportunity to grow alongside leaders I deeply admire, including Jessica Brewer, Shawn Jenkins, Greg Monn, and Jeff Oldham. Even after three years, I’m still learning something new almost every week. The culture at SwellSpace fosters curiosity, encourages development, and creates space for meaningful collaboration. That has made the experience especially rewarding.
What’s your role at SwellSpace, and what does a typical day look like?
Dom: I’m the Marketing Manager at SwellSpace. My work spans the full customer funnel, beginning with building awareness through top-of-funnel marketing, continuing with sales support during the consideration phase, and extending through the bottom of the funnel as we focus on driving adoption and engagement.
My focus areas include social media, press releases, thought leadership, and sales enablement. I also collaborate with our services and engineering teams to ensure messaging and experiences align across every stage. What I enjoy most is the variety. No two days are ever the same, and each one brings a new opportunity to problem-solve, create, and learn.
What’s something interesting you’re seeing in the HR, benefits, or software space right now?
Dom: Two things stand out.
The first is the current state of benefits communication. Even after years of studies showing that most employees don’t understand their benefits, many companies still rely on outdated methods. SwellSpace takes a different approach. I’ve seen firsthand how prospects respond once they understand what we do. It’s like a light bulb turns on. That moment never gets old. It’s exciting to see a new generation of HR and benefits professionals thinking differently about communication.
The second is AI. It’s transforming how we work, think, and solve problems. I use AI daily for content generation and research, and it has been a game-changer. My go-to tools are ChatGPT, Claude, and Manus. Each one helps me work more efficiently and creatively. I know other team members are using AI in their own ways, and it’s inspiring to see how quickly it’s becoming part of our day-to-day.
What’s your favorite part of working at SwellSpace?
Dom: I get to help solve an age-old problem alongside a team that’s talented, kind, and deeply committed to the mission. Every day brings something different. I learn new things, explore new tools like AI, and have meaningful conversations with customers and prospects about how SwellSpace can support their teams. It’s a privilege to be part of something that’s both innovative and grounded in real impact.
Just for fun, what’s your favorite movie, and what do you love about it?
Dom: It’s hard to name just one favorite, but Dances with Wolves with Kevin Costner has always stuck with me. My brother and I moved to the U.S. from the Philippines in 1991. I was 11 and he was 8. I remember watching that movie and having to ask my parents what certain words meant because my English wasn’t fully conversational yet.
The story of self-reliance, hope, and finding common ground really resonated with me, especially at that age. It’s a movie I still watch with my family. It brings back memories of those early years and reminds me of the importance of connection with those that you share this world with.
