This edition of Inside SwellSpace spotlights one of the newest members of our Creative Services team, Emma. A recent College of Charleston grad and standout athlete, Emma brings fresh perspective, talent, and heart to everything she touches, from sailing to site building. She’s building a meaningful career, one benefits site at a time.
Tell us a little about yourself. What drew you to join the SwellSpace team?
Emma: Hi! I’m Emma, a recent graduate from the College of Charleston. I earned my BS in Psychology and was an active member of the Varsity Sailing Team. I was honored to receive All-American Honorable Mention in both 2024 and 2025, and I was named SAISA Women’s Sailor of the Year in 2024. As college came to a close, I knew I wanted to work somewhere that made a real difference in people’s lives. SwellSpace stood out because it helps employees understand and use resources that improve their health and well-being. I’m incredibly grateful for such a positive start to my professional career.
What’s your role at SwellSpace, and what does a typical day look like?
Emma: I help transform employer and broker-provided materials into custom benefits websites. Every company is unique, so I love adding a creative touch to make each site feel personal and easy to navigate. I also work closely with clients alongside my manager, Jessica Cornell. We meet regularly with customers to make sure their needs are met and that they feel supported throughout the process.
What’s something interesting you’re seeing in the HR, benefits, or software space right now?
Emma: Something that still surprises me is how disorganized the benefits experience can be for employees. It’s not uncommon for someone to need five or six different logins just to access their medical, dental, vision, and other benefits. That kind of experience makes it harder to actually use the resources available, especially during stressful times or big life changes.
What’s your favorite part of working at SwellSpace?
Emma: My favorite part is being part of a team that truly cares. You can feel the energy and passion behind the product, because we’re solving a problem so many people face. Everyone here believes in what we’re building, and that shared purpose makes the work really fulfilling.
Just for fun, what’s your favorite movie, and what do you love about it?
Emma: I love a good rom-com. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorites because it’s the perfect mix of humor, romance, and witty banter. It’s a lighthearted movie that never gets old!
